Vestmannaeyjar, or The Westman Islands, are truly a wonder of Nature. The youngest island of the Vestmannaeyjar celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013 and the oldest one is close to 40.000 years old!

A transfer bus (non-guided) takes you to the pier at Bakkafjara on the south coast (about a one hour drive) and from there the ferry (non-guided transfer) takes another 30 minutes to reach the islands. Once there you will be greeted by a local guide and join a bus tour around Heimaey island.

You will visit the puffins in Storhofdi and walk up to the crater of a volcano that erupted only a few years ago as well as exploring the flora of the new lava field.

After a lunch break you join a boat cruise where you will see many of the wonders of the Vestmannaeyjar nature. Colourful ocean caves, millions of seabirds and, occasionally during the summer, groups of whales. On the return from the cruise you will enjoy instrumental music in the natural echo of the ocean cave Klettshellir.

Pick-ups from several Reykjavik hotels and guesthouses have been affected by new restrictions imposed by Reykjavík City Council. You will be assigned a nearby bus stop where your transport will meet you instead which is contained in the below link.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please note while children under 7 can travel free of charge on this tour we will need to reserve a place for them in the coach, so please remember to let us know how many children are travelling and how old they are.

Please note: Occasionally actual days of operation are subject to change. If this is the case we will endeavour to book a day as close as possible to your original preferred day. Should this not be acceptable a full refund will be made.

Please note that this tour is not available on 4th, 5th, 22nd, 25th of June, 27th July and 3rd August.

Tour Information

• Departs Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays Saturdays and Sundays between May and September at 7.30am with return to Reykjavík at around 9pm.
• Duration: 10 hours approx.
• Hotel pick up included as well as ferry transport, guided bus tour of Heimaey island, guided boat tour around the islands, admission fee to Eldheimar museum and English speaking guide.

When you’ve Booked: You’ll receive an initial confirmation from us immediately. We will then send your booking details to the supplier within 48 hours to request confirmation. Once they confirm that your requested date and ticket is available, we will email your confirmation which will include the local operator’s contact details and any relevant information.
