City Sightseeing Norwich - Hop on Hop off

Take a bus tour of Norwich with City Sightseeing!

In Medieval times Norwich was one of the greatest cities in England. The city is dominated by its 12th century Cathedral and Castle, built by the Normans with imported stone from France. The Castle is the County's principle museum and is home to some of the most outstanding collections of fine art, archaeology and natural history. In the magnificent Norman keep, models, sound and video bring history to life. The historic Norwich Anglican Cathedral is well worth a visit. The church, which stands proudly on the city’s skyline, has always been greatly loved by the people of Norfolk and was recently voted Norfolk’s favourite building. Visit the shop and library, catch an organ recital or attend one of the church’s regular events. You will be enchanted by Elm Hill’s famous, cobbled medieval street which is home to a number of specialty shops and cafes. Norwich is now one of the top five shopping destinations in the United Kingdom.

Explore the city at your leisure, allowing your City Sightseeing bus tour commentary to highlight all the attractions along the way. Hop off at The Assembly House, Norwich’s premium meeting place for dining, music recitals, jazz evenings, and banqueting. You can also admire the art exhibits displayed in the Noverre Gallery and Hobart room. While in the vicinity you will see the grand building which is the City Hall, and nearby is the magnificent Country & Eastern Gallery. Formerly a Victorian Skating Rink, this unique, listed building has been imaginatively restored and is now home to spectacular displays of an interesting range of textiles, traditional and antique furniture, ceramics and decorative objects imported from the East. Discover the history and culture of the Broads, a series of rivers and broads (lakes). Boats are available to hire and waterside pubs and restaurants line the river. Mousehold Heath is an area of heathland and woodland which is now mostly covered by semi-natural woodland, although some areas of heath remain and are actively cared for. The area presents 200 acres of woodland and open space where you will find football pitches, a pitch-and-putt course and a band stand.

Take the bus tour to King Street and behold Dragon Hall, a Grade 1 listed trading hall built circa 1430. It is a unique legacy of medieval life and is one of the most important historic buildings in Norwich and Norfolk. A programme of events takes place throughout the year. Visit St Julian’s Shrine, housed in the charming Church of St. Julian. The 14th century mystic of Norwich, St Julian the Hospitaller, was the patron saint of ferrymen. For those who appreciate architecture, admire the opulent office building of Surrey House. Erected on the site of the house of Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey (1517-1547), Surrey House is a Grade I listed building which depicts Greek and Masonic symbols with themes of insurance, protection and well-being. Relax in The Plantation Garden with its Gothic style fountain, medieval style walls, palm house, plantation house and orchard. You won’t be short of choice during the evening as Norwich has a vibrant and varied nightlife. The Riverside Quarter is conveniently located near the station and is not only home to a gym and a range of chain restaurants but also offers ten pin bowling, a cinema, bars and nightclubs.
