Mentioned in the Book of Revelations in the Bible, this ancient city was an important centre for early Christianity and the apostle Paul lived here for a time. Many acres of the city have been carefully excavated and you can even stroll down the main marble-stoned thoroughfare with market places, public baths and fountains.
